Description
Assignment 7.1 Data Analytics Final Project use the provided outline in order to complete the assigment.will add instructors notes on the outline. Reports or academic-style essays should by 7-8 pages in length, double-spaced, using standard
fonts and margins.
The goal of this project is to apply data analytics and critical thinking skills to a real-world crime problem,
public safety policy, or resource allocation decision. You will identify a topic of your choice that achieves
these objectives. Topic choices that are likely to have real-world practical value for your agency are
encouraged, but not required. Quality projects will demonstrate the ability to leverage numerical data and
related evidence into sound arguments for resources, to analyze the effectiveness of an existing policy, or
propose new strategies and approaches.
Substantive Requirements
Quality projects will…
• Use numerical data to make an argument or evaluation
• Utilize charts, tables, and/or graphs to illustrate the data
• Possibly utilize statistical procedure(s) from the course
• Leverage examples and cases that help bring the data to life and show its impact on your agency
• Incorporate various sources of crime data, if applicable to your topic
• Provide ample empirical evidence and citations as support throughout

Examples & Possible Directions
These examples are intended to provide direction and guidance, but should not limit your thinking.
• analyze the efficacy of an existing intelligence-led or data-driven policing strategy possibly
including an analysis of calls for service, arrests, reports taken etc.
• create a new intelligence-led or data-driven policing strategy for your agency with sound empirical
justification
• conduct an analysis of specialized units and their effectiveness in addressing community needs
• conduct an analysis of staffing in general or particular deployment strategies and their
effectiveness in addressing community needs
• analyze your agency’s current deployment structure and the boundaries and number of existing
beats
• leverage data to analyze a decision involving resources including personnel, fleet, and/or
equipment
