Project 1A_EDU635: Developing and Building Pedagogically Sound Lessons in an LMS
Consider the level of chunking, scaffolding, and/or formative practice. Is the material divided into logical, consumable pieces to reduce unnecessary cognitive load? Is there a pedagogically sound progression from simple to complex? Are there sufficient checkpoints to confirm mastery prior to moving forward in the learning path?
Analyze the instructional clarity. Are directions written in plain language appropriate to the grade level and content area? Are expectations and assignment requirements transparent and reinforced?
Confirm that the lesson design allows for differentiation. How flexible is your lesson design for accommodating diverse learners? To what extent can you make use of asynchronous and synchronous modalities? To what extent can you create multiple, equivalent pathways through the lesson?
Evaluate the presentation and organization of the online materials. In what ways can you improve the user experience with respect to navigation and structure?
How can materials be presented in various and novel ways to pique student interest? Are there any technical barriers (ex., broken links, inaccessible materials, etc.) to student engagement? Have you sufficiently leveraged opportunities for creating interactivity between and among students and the instructor?
