Children and Youth Studies
I. Program Goals
a. To be aware of the distinct place in society children and youth, as a culturally specific cohort, occupy both historically and in the present.
b. To understand the complexity and diversity of social conditions experienced by children and youth across the globe.
c. To link theory to praxis by engaging students in multidisciplinary opportunities for research, advocacy, and professional development in traditional, nontraditional, and emerging areas of children and youth studies.
II. What Can Do With a Children and Youth Studies Degree?
Our program provides a holistic interdisciplinary perspective of issues concerning children and youth. We offer a broad range of courses that examines up-to-date topics affecting children and youth within the context of the family, school, peer groups, and community, as well as a national and global perspective. Our program provides the academic foundation and career focus necessary to pursue a wide variety of professions working directly or indirectly with children and youth.
1. A 2-page critical reflection for EACH ARTICLE that includes a summary of the reading (including methods and findings, if applicable), your critical response to the reading, how the article fits within a course of study in Children & Youth Studies including how/when/why you read it (what course, assignment{ACE – CHST 3620, Lundy: Voice – CHST 2100, Children in Crisis care and Practice article – CHST 2200}, etc), and why you think the reading is important/why you chose the reading.
2. Include a reflection on how these articles relate to health, equal rights/social justice, and the economy.
3. A reference page with proper APA format.
