Describe the techniques, the risks, the goals, the outcomes, and then, based on these studies, offer a brief summary of what these studies tell you overall about the state of the tech and its possible uses in humans.

This is a guideline from my professor that would like to be followed as far as the approach to the paper:

For this first paper you could look at germline gene modification generally and CRISPR specifically.

Almost all of the research will be on animal models—which is fine, as that will give you some sense of what works and what are the remaining obstacles to be overcome before it’s used in humans.

Describe the techniques, the risks, the goals, the outcomes, and then, based on these studies, offer a brief summary of what these studies tell you overall about the state of the tech and its possible uses in humans.

It has, of course, already been used, by He Jiankui in China, but most researchers think he jumped the gun.

Your scene descriptions should be detailed and talk about all aspects of both the mise-en-scene and the cinematography.

Discuss some of the reasons why the director may have used particular elements of the mise-en-scene and cinematography. These reasons might include, e.g.: establishing the genre, tell the stories, set a mood, or reveal the characters.

Your scene descriptions might also describe relevant motifs and themes. Consider also discussing the use of sound.

As an option, you may discuss how the two films are similar or different, in terms of themes, visual style, characters, etc.

In each case make sure that you refer to the relevant handouts

and use the proper film terms

(Don’t forget to consult the “Glossary,” under “Resources’ in SLATE).

Do not use any other sources from books, articles, or online.

Do not Google the films. Essays that include material from the web will receive zero (0).

This is not a group exercise. Essays which include sentences used in other student’s essays will receive zero (0)

Submit your essay by Aug. 4th

Late essays will not be considered.

note these four points in writing any film essay:

1. Film titles must be in italics.

2. Always use the present tense in talking about a film. The following is correct: “Buster tricks the bad guys by jumping through a window into a woman’s dress.” “Buster tricked” is incorrect.

3. Use the first person in writing about your observations, ideas, thoughts. For example: believe that the Veda character functions as the femme fatale in Mildred Pierce.”

4. You are writing the essay for me or someone like me—in other words, someone who has seen the film many times. As such, do not spend any time re-telling the plot. Just jump right into the scene you want to discuss. For example: “In the scene where Raimunda returns to the apartment with Paula, we see lots of red objects, e.g. pieces of clothing, etc. in the street and at the house.”

How does the information in the article apply to intervention, prevention, and/or treatment within a particular population?

Unit 8

Explain article “The Many Roles of Social Workers in the Prevention and Treatment of Alcohol and Drug Addiction:A Major Health and Social Problem Affecting Individuals, Families, and Society” and why it is important

What type of journal article did you read?

What did the authors discuss in the article?

How does the information in the article apply to intervention, prevention, and/or treatment within a particular population?

Part 2

Describe a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). Be sure to address the following:

What career option did you choose, and why?

Where would someone in this career role work?

What types of professional activities does someone perform in this role?

What requirements must a person meet to pursue this career option?

What did this look like initially, how has police interrogation changed, and how do those changes mean the data collected by officers is more accurate?

Remember how the discussion assignments work. You need to respond to one discussion question with an essay of 400-600 words with at least two references.

This is the last week so there are not responses due. With that being said, the entire 40 points are incorporated into the initial posting so take your time and put forth a larger amount of energy into this one activity.

Include the question you are answering at the beginning of the posting. If you notice that several people have answered a particular question, try to answer a different one. The more different discussion topics we have, the better.

Here are the questions for Week Eight:

1. How valued is eye witness testimony by members of the jury? Explain your belief about this question, then delve into the research on the topic. Was your perception accurate or not? What factors influence eye witness testimony?

2. Criminal law is intended to be black or white, right or wrong. There is little room for grey in the field. The general process is supposed to be a person commits a crime, police investigate the crime and compile evidence, arrest the guilty party, prosecutors are able to prove the person is guilty in a trial (interestingly, most cases end in plea agreements), and the guilty party is sentenced.

The entire assumption of criminal law is the data on which prosecutors attempt to prove guilty beyond a reasonable doubt is sound.

So, what happens when police interrogation results in a false confession? Research the chapter and other sources and discuss the changing field of police interrogations.

What did this look like initially, how has police interrogation changed, and how do those changes mean the data collected by officers is more accurate?

3. Read the following article: (https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/releases/people-can-be-convinced-they-committed-a-crime-they-dont-remember.html) and talk about how the findings may or may not influence confessions. What does other research or court rulings say about this topic?

4. Summarize and explain the gap between scientific and public understandings of climate change. Why are these gaps present?

5. To what extent do money and consumption buy happiness? And why do materialism and economic growth not bring enduringly greater satisfaction?

Regarding this last point, there was and continues to be a large body of research that believes the insanity defense is raised frequently, is often successful, and results in placement in the community. How are those beliefs incorrect?

1. In 1981 John W. Hinkley attempted to assassinate then President Ronald Reagan. For this LA, want you to spend considerable time researching and understanding Hinkley’s motivation for engaging in such behavior (referencing the movie Taxi Driver), what mental illness did he suffer from and how did that illness distort his view of reality, and what occurred after the assassination attempt.

This last point should include a discussion of the trial, federal law changes (check out the Insanity Defense Reform Act of 1984), and, most importantly for this class, what was the public perception of the events that occurred?

Regarding this last point, there was and continues to be a large body of research that believes the insanity defense is raised frequently, is often successful, and results in placement in the community. How are those beliefs incorrect?

When you looked at websites, job postings, and other resources related to this career field, what did you notice about how people in this profession communicate? Were any words, ideas, or phrases prominent?
