What will be important to you when you are dying (e.g., physical comfort, no pain, family members present, etc.)?
How do you feel about the use of life-sustaining measures in the face of terminal illness? Permanent coma? Irreversible chronic illness, such as Alzheimer’s disease?
Do you have strong feelings about particular medical procedures? Some procedures to think about include mechanical breathing (respirator), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), artificial nutrition and hydration, hospital intensive care, pain relief medication, chemo or radiation therapy, and surgery.
What limitations to your physical and mental health would affect the health care decisions you would make? Would you want to have financial matters taken into account when treatment decisions are made?
Would you want to be placed in a nursing home if your condition warranted?
Would you prefer Hospice care, with the goal of keeping you comfortable in your home during the final period of your life, as an alternative to hospitalization?
In general, do you wish to participate or share in making decisions about your health care and treatment?
Would you always want to know the truth about your condition, treatment options, and the chance of success of treatments?
Write a five to six-page essay on the following topic: Why does a full understanding of our world require the humanities in addition to the sciences?
Illustrate your discussion with reference to two specific primary texts assigned in this class, and explain what we can learn from those texts that goes beyond science.
Choose two complementary texts that can be read as part of a conversation (i.e., one of the texts can be read as a response to questions raised by the other).
You should refer to at least two secondary sources, but note that this is not a research paper.
You should be able to complete the paper drawing only from the Required and Recommended Resources included in this course.

Your paper should be outlined as follows:
In your introduction, include a clear definition of the humanities, including how they differ from the sciences, and a concise summary of how a humanistic understanding can sometimes go beyond a scientific one. (No more than one page.)
In your next paragraph, explain the conversation that you will use to illustrate your claim about the humanities’ ability to contribute to our understanding.
State which two texts you will use and summarize how one of them can be read as a response to a question raised by the other one. (No more than one page.)
Give a detailed interpretation of your chosen texts, focusing primarily on those texts’ contribution to our understanding of the specific question you selected.
You may need to summarize some aspects of your chosen texts before trying to explain their meaning, but your discussion should be primarily analysis rather than mere summary.
In other words, explain the contribution of the texts to human understanding, not just what the texts say or what happens in their plots. (No more than three pages.)
In conclusion, summarize how the insights of your chosen texts show that the humanities can go beyond science as you stated in your introduction and reiterate why the insights of the humanities are necessary to have a full understanding of our world. (No more than one page.)
The Final Paper
Must be five to six double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Writing Center.
Must include a separate title page with the following:
Title of paper
Student’s name
Course name and number
Instructor’s name
Date submitted
Must use at least two scholarly sources in addition to the primary text you are analyzing.
Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Writing Center.
Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Writing Center.

The Big Picture. A 1 or 2 page general description of your business (in APA format). Describe the company you have chosen and the topic for which you believe data collection and analysis will benefit that company.
You are a consultant hired to inform a company (a profit or a non-profit) why they should invest in a data analytics function and what they stand to gain.
The client company is relatively sure they want such a function because they heard it produces useful predictions of some kind involving customers, suppliers, competitors and more, but they are not sure what it might cost to set up or how to do it, or what they can realistically expect to gain from it.
Pick a company to write about (public or private, profit or non-profit). Analyze the current issues important to that company and that industry. Research the current competitive environment.
Research what benefits are already being provided by similar data analytics functions. Estimate the likely costs and obstacles a new data analytics function will face.
Write a 1 or 2 page proposal (an APA-style essay) to your client in which you tell them (1) what a data analytics function is and what they can expect to gain from it, and (2) generally how it should be set up (you will fill-in more details in later papers).
For instance, it might be set up in a local data center on new equipment, or maybe it should be set up in the cloud, or maybe some other method.
Estimate the likely project timeline (how long will it take) and estimate ballpark costs (you can revise these later).
Depending on your choices, such a data analytics function might be a small low-cost thing, or maybe it might be a higher-cost and more extensive function.
In later weeks of this class you will be asked to add-on lots of additional details (in future more essays) to cover the many other topics in detail, such as the cloud, data warehousing, networks, security, and more.
The Essay (about 2 pages in APA style)
What is the name of the business that hired you as the consultant? You can select a real business or you can make one up.
Assume they do not have a data analytics function. Who is your customer (the person that hired you)? Is it the CEO? The CIO? Someone else?
What things are important to this business? For instance, if you are writing about a company that makes paper products, then for instance the availability of wood or recycled paper is likely to be important to them.
Many more things are probably important to them too, such as sales, costs, inventory, competitors, supplies, etc.
Tell the customer which thing or which things they can expect to get from this new data analytics function.
How might an ongoing data analytics function (not a one-time thing) provide some of these things that are missing but are important to your client? What is a reasonable time to set up such a data analytics function? What are estimated costs?
What is your estimate of the duration of this project? (You can revise these later – for now just estimate)
Use APA-style to write this essay.
Do not repeat the numbered instructions in this essay. Do not simply “Educate the reader” with definitions.

Critical Thinking Paper Art Appreciation
The critical thinking paper will be an analysis of a work of art of your choice at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Considering Covid-19, you have the option of going in person to the museum or looking on their website for an artwork.
The entire collection of the museum is online.
There is no comparison of looking at an artwork in person, but it might not be realistic for your situation.am leaving that up to you to decide. Your paper will be submitted in the journal the week it is due (see below).
The journal can be found under the module for the week it is due in Blackboard.
You must include an image of the artwork with your paper.
You should place it into the body of your paper and submit as a pdf file or a word document.
You must cite any references you use although references are not required
. This is not a research paper, but a paper demonstrating your observation and critical thinking process.

Questions to consider when analyzing an artwork:
What is the role of the artists?Is the work representational or nonrepresentational?
What formal elements are used – line, space, color & light, texture, pattern, design elements.
Is the work expressive (emotional) or analytical? What color scheme is used? How does this affect the meaning? What medium is used?
The above list is for ideas. Each work will be different and what is written about may vary.
Everyone should start by looking at the artwork and describing what you see (the subject matter), then what that means (content).
Remember artwork can be open ended.
If you think this is the case with your artwork, you need to make this clear.
You can give more than one interpretation if you feel it is necessary.
If you go to the museum, you can write about your experience at the museum.
How it is different seeing an artwork in person.
Make sure to have a clear introduction, body, & conclusion for your paper.
This means you should have at least 3 paragraphs, not one giant paragraph.
do not want a list, but a well written analysis of the artwork & museum experience.
Your introduction should be something that captures your reader’s attention, the body should lay-out the nuts and bolts of the artwork, and the conclusion should sum up your experience with the artwork &/or the museum.
Remember to spell check and use complete sentences!
For both an import good and an export good (in other words, address each bulleted item below twice—once for import and once for export), describe how opening up to international trade affects the following:
supply or demand for the particular good,
The competitiveness of that good’s market, and how the change in competitiveness affects equilibrium price and quantity.
Stepping away from the import/export examples, describe how opening up to trade specifically affects a domestic monopoly.
Include an explanation, using game theory, of how even a single additional competitor can lead to a market outcome similar to perfect competition.
Your essay must be at least three pages in length (not counting the title and references pages) and include at least three peer-reviewed resources. Adhere to APA Style when writing your essay, including citations and references for sources used.
