Details when anthropologists become involved in international development projects.

The textbook chapter this week described some of the details when anthropologists become involved in international development projects. Are there situations in which it is acceptable to try to alter a group’s cultural values in order to promote changes in health, nutrition, or women’s rights? Or, do you think it is inappropriate for outsiders to demand change? Do you think it is possible to achieve goals, such as improved nutrition, without pressuring groups to change their values and beliefs? Refer to the textbook for your answers.

2. Describe the two strategies AND any family characteristics (cultural or personal) that might be important to consider and why. Pull these characteristics from the Family Systems Framework (in your textbook and the video module).

For example, interviewing the family at the start of the year might help you to (a) learn more about their background, values, and expectations for Angelica.

However, during the interview you would need to consider family communication styles (to know how to best ask and respond to questions), their roles (to understand who would be most appropriate to include in the interview), and their values (to determine if some questions/topics might not be appropriate to address.
