Analyze the statistical meanings of the SPSS Output for your independent samples t-test and for your paired samples t-test.

Analyze the statistical meanings of the SPSS Output for your independent samples t-test and for your paired samples t-test.

Formulates a research question for which the independent samples t-test could provide an appropriate answer, including the following:

Identify the independent variable and the dependent variable and infers and identifies the population from which the sample was drawn.

Includes the null hypothesis, reports the SPSS calculated p-value (the Sig. value) and decides to either reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis.

Explain why the decision to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis was made.

When it comes to using SPSS, what do you find as most helpful and most difficult? What are your top three take-aways from Dan Willingham’s When can you trust the experts? Why?

SPSS Reflection

1) When it comes to using SPSS, what do you find as most helpful and most difficult?

2) For 2A and 2B assume that you are writing a short paragraph summary to a candidate entering Stats at the start of next semester…

2A: Explain what descriptive statistics are and a few keys to understand for using them in student success initiatives.

2B: Explain how inferential statistics work and why they can help us in advancing student success.

3) Discuss how theory should influence our work as a researcher.

4) What are your top three take-aways from Dan Willingham’s When can you trust the experts? Why?

5) Complete this final task by reflecting on your development and next steps: what topic(s) and/or idea(s) have had the most impact on you this semester? And what questions do you want to dive into next, thinking about quantitative research?

Identify whether factors including loneliness, anxiety, knowledge, well-being and age contributed to predicting Covid-19 vaccination uptake.

Are the following predictor variables positively or negatively associated with statistics anxiety: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, perceived autonomy, and perceived competence?”

4,500 word empirical research project

Research Question: “Are the following predictor variables positively or negatively associated with statistics anxiety: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, perceived autonomy, and perceived competence?”

The 4 predictor variables are intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, perceived autonomy, and perceived competence. And the main criterion is statistics anxiety.

For each of the variables a hypothesis should be made and how it associates negatively/positively with statistics anxiety? This can be formulated through data collected in the excel sheet attached. However, this has to be transferred into SPSS and data should be analysed and presented here and how it relates to the hypothesis.

These 2 articles should help and based my literature review on references/sources that would be available from them.

Were the study participants representative of the U.S. population in current salary, when the Current Population Survey shows a median weekly wage/salary for adult full-time workers of $671?

Mini project

Were the study participants representative of the U.S. population in current salary, when the Current Population Survey shows a median weekly wage/salary for adult full-time workers of $671? To answer this question, you should run inferential statistics. You should run a comparison using SPSS.

How often do you consider your pet to be a member of your family? Are the differences between what we observed and what we would expect to find if there were no relationship great enough that we can reject the suggestion that there is no relationship?

“How often do you consider your pet to be a member of your family?”

Are the differences between what we observed and what we would expect to find if there were no relationship great enough that we can reject the suggestion that there is no relationship?

What is the degree of difficulty in conducting your study (e.g. how difficult was it to find data that was related to your research question and you could perform data analysis with it)? What is the potential significance of the proposed analysis to knowledge, theory, the field of criminology, and society?

JUVENILES INVOLVEMENT IN PROPERTY CRIMES

ADVANCED CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDIES

General Guidelines For Writing Essay #3

This Essay accounts for 20% of the final grade.

Make sure that you are describing the analysis that you will be conducting.

Address each of the following:

How do you expect the results to come out? Why? In your answer, be sure to refer to previous research and/or theory to support your answer (

Research Question- Relation between Juveniles and Property Crimes Ages 12-18

What results can we expect to come out?

Does age causes property crime? Or does Age influence property crimes

b. Describe your research design and sample

Quantitative Research deign. Please be data driven. (Ratio between Property crime and Age 12-18) Please use Uniform Crime Report ( Sample = where the data is coming from)

c. What is your independent variable? What is your dependent variable? Your unit of analysis is going to be either group (aggregate) data or data at the individual level.

Independent Variable is Age (Please defined), Dependent variable is property crime (Please Defined/ Use Uniform Crime Report. Example include theft, burglary, automobile theft etc…). Explain where the data came from.

Unit of Analysis ( Use Group data or aggregate data for this portion)

No hard data required, just explaining where the data is going to come from. Source

(Possible sources to use include OJJDP website and Census. gov)

d. Data Analysis- what SPSS (SPSS Statistics is a software package used for interactive, or batched, statistical analysis) procedure will you use to analyze your data? Why?

SPSS is going to use Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient*

Analysis going to be descriptive data because of Pearson’s correlation coefficient. It’s a descriptive statistical measure.

Pearson’s is used to determine the relationship between my independent variable and my dependent variable.

Explain why I picked this procedure and how I do the analysis.

At least five lines of data and five years of data

e. What is the degree of difficulty in conducting your study (e.g. how difficult was it to find data that was related to your research question and you could perform data analysis with it)?

Use Your Own Words

Just answer this questions above.

f. What is the potential significance of the proposed analysis to knowledge, theory, the field of criminology, and society?

Use Your Own Words Here

What is the significance of my study to the field of criminology, and society? (Example, my research can assist and understanding a little bit more about the relationship between race and who commits what types of crimes).

Refer back to some of theories used in the attached essays written before. Use other knowledge as well.

g. What are the strengths and limitations related to your ability to complete your study?

Who was the author of this article? Are they an expert in the field, someone who is reporting what experts have reported, or are they sharing their opinion? Why is this topic worthwhile to write about? What is the purpose of the article? Who is it directed toward? Who was likely to be reading it where it was originally published? WHY would this topic interest readers?

Field Assignment: Article Analysis #3

Use the following section headings and write at least one paragraph to describe each:

Summarize the article in 4-6 sentences. One of these sentences must contain the main idea of the article.
Author

Who was the author of this article? Are they an expert in the field, someone who is reporting what experts have reported, or are they sharing their opinion?

What is the author trying to accomplish by writing this article? Is there an ‘agenda’ that you think the author has for writing the article and leading the reader through his/her thinking, or a conclusion you think the author is trying to lead you to? If so, what might that be?

Why is this topic worthwhile to write about? What is the purpose of the article? Who is it directed toward? Who was likely to be reading it where it was originally published? WHY would this topic interest readers?

In a strong paragraph, summarize the ‘message’ from this article. What would the author want you to remember from it?
Personal Application

What was your impression of the article? Did what you learned from reading this change your thinking in any way? How can/will you use the information from this article in your work with children? Are there conclusions drawn by the author that you strongly agree or disagree with? This is your educated, reasoned opinion but you need to back up your opinion with information from the article.

Note that some of the analysis in the output may be nonsense or not necessary, so explicitly decide what is relevant in making your decisions.

This seminar is a community of learning in which you apply your prior knowledge of statistics (a prerequisite of program entry) in the ability to use statistical analysis to solve knotty business research problems.

For your first post, explain

(a) the major problem posed in the case and

(b) how you used the statistical analyses provided to

(c) come to recommendations for improvements.

Explain what you relied on from the output and what you thought was not needed.
