Unit I introduced the benefits of markets to improving outcomes for producers and consumers.

Unit II examined the role of costs and prices in decision-making. For this assignment, you will answer a series of questions in the form of an essay. Support your answers with research from at least three peer-reviewed journal articles using the CSU Online Library (or other sources).Research elasticity information for two particular goods: one with an elastic demand and one with an inelastic demand. Using elasticity information you gather, predict changes in demand. The United States Department of Agriculture website has a good resource to help with this.

Describe how marginal analysis, by avoiding sunk costs, leads to better pricing decisions.

Explain the importance of opportunity costs to decision-making and how opportunity costs lead to trade.

The health law field currently has undergone, and will continue to undergo, enormous change.

Among the multitude of challenges are legal implications that come with electronic health records (EHRs), payments based on patient outcomes, mergers, fraud, insurance disbursements, and antitrust laws—just to name few. In addition, disruptive medical innovations, such as biotechnology and treatment research, have created new concerns over ethics and privacy.To perform proficiently as a health care administrator, the current environment requires that you have an understanding of key health care laws such as the following:

HIPAA for Professionals.
HITECH Act Enforcement Interim Final Rule.
Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA).
A Roadmap for New Physicians: Fraud & Abuse Laws; Anti-Kickback Statute.
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008.

Instructions

In this assignment, imagine you work as an administrator in a hospital or health care organization. You are being considered for a promotion and are being asked to prepare a report for senior leadership that demonstrates your knowledge and interpretation of one of the above-mentioned health care laws.

To complete this report, select a court case where one of these health care laws was violated.

Write an analysis of the law and the selected case following the SESC formula:

State, Explain, Support, and Conclude. Be sure to also address how organizational leadership in the selected court case could move forward to ensure that the health care law isn't violated again in the future.

Your report should be at least five pages long and should include a title page and references for a total of 7–8 pages.

Main theme:

Beginning around 1880, a new group of migrants reached the U.S—members of this group began their voyages in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and in Southern and Eastern Europe. Americans living in the south also began another migration, this one to northern cities. African Americans residing in the South were among the poorest Americans, and they enjoyed few of the protections of law and courts. For most European and African Americans, adult life consisted of mastering the problem of finding work. Those migrants, wherever their journeys began, lived their material, emotional, political, and social lives just as we do–by “raising” families, “getting” a living, buying and selling property, and migrating. Here’s an additional idea to consider: Migrants did not seek some “American Dream.” Instead, a way of life (wherever they resided) was coming to an end—and they departed in search of jobs and modest, secure lives for themselves and loved ones.

We want to study the people who departed Africa, Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean/and Pacific Islands, and the Indian subcontinent.  Remember that migration has also included the movement of people within the U.S. from one place to another—from farms to cities to suburbs, from south to north and maybe back south, and among African American, Latin peoples, and low-income whites a lengthy and hazardous trek toward an uncertain future.

From time to time,  acquire pieces of information regarding my grandparents (mother’s side), who resided in Romania c. 1880—and they were in turn part of a migration from a small town to the U.S., Israel, and Australia c. 1900-1910). We have two daughters, both married—one husband’s family moved from Ireland to the US after World War II; and our other son-in-law’s family moved from Lithuania to South Africa (c. 1900) and then to the U.S. in the mid-1970s.
