What is a technological support you might provide to help them (could involve a computer, computer program, phone, iPad, etc.)?

Visual report

PURPOSE:

When we begin to think about ways to provide supports to students with disabilities we can quickly get overwhelmed. We often “overthink” what supports might be needed. For example, many educators will create elaborate, color-coded, laminated charts for students to help them stay on task or select reinforcers. While these are totally fine (as long as they are age appropriate), always start small. Can just create a post-it they can point to for the reinforcer they choose (e.g., library time, computer)? Can  simply have a post-it with the question staying on task right now?YES or NO” and point to it as walk around the room. Can  provide a written schedule they can put in a notebook instead of a giant visual schedule with pictures that needs to be placed on a wall with velcro? Can put a reminder in their phone? Sometimes the answer is need the big elaborate support” and that isTOTALLY FINE.But hope this helps you think about different ways of supporting students. Ways that are more socially appropriate or don’t require so much planning and preparation on your end are ideal.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Respond to the following prompts. See rubric for scoring and specific items to include.

(1 paragraph minimum)

1. Think back to your own high school experience. If you were sitting through an IEP meeting with your parents about your future what would you find challenging about the meeting? What would you feel? (memes are encouraged) What supports might you need to participate? Get specific.

(1 paragraph minimum)

2. Some students we work with have complex communication needs (they might not use verbal speech, might use an augmentative and alternative communication device, might use images for comprehension instead of written text) or extreme behaviors.

We often think of these students as not being able to participate in the IEP process because they have challenges self-managing their behavior or aren’t able to communicate with IEP teams in traditional ways.

Post a visual support (develop on your own or find an existing support on the web) that might help a high school student with these challenges (you can choose behavior or communication challenges) to participate in an IEP meeting.

Think critically to discuss how it will be used, how it is socially appropriate, and which IEP steps it would support them through.

What is a technological support you might provide to help them (could involve a computer, computer program, phone, iPad, etc.)?

Think critically to identify how it will be used, how it is socially appropriate, and which IEP steps it would support them through.

Exclamation point.

This week’s technology alert activity is more about using the web to find resources than creating something.

Find and post a resource (e.g., website, blog, podcast, video) about self-determination.

Make sure to tell us why you selected the resource and how it might be helpful for other colleagues. If you want to get real wild you can speak to why self-determination is important for ALL students.

Critically examine the postings of your peers and provide a brief overview of what role religion plays in extremism and terrorism and provide at least one example of each.

What is the difference between extremism and terrorism?

Although it’s commonly associated with religion, extreme ideology is also present in other forms of belief.Terrorism is a type of violent action that involves the intentional targeting of non-combatants. It can also be done in a bifocal manner, where the attack is carried out on one group and not on another. There is not much overlap between the two. When you look at the ideology and psychology of the terrorists, it is clear that they have a lot in common. In terms of the motives of the attackers, they tend to have a lot in common.

What are the causes and motives of terrorism?

Political – Terrorism is a type of organized political violence that originated from groups or individuals who are trying to create instability or gain political advantage. During the Northern Ireland Troubles, which lasted from 1968 to 1998, some of the most violent acts were carried out by Protestant groups.Religious – In the 1990s, various religious groups and individuals carried out terrorist attacks. These include the doomsday cult Aum Shinrikyo, which carried out the sarin gas attacks in Tokyo in 1994. There was a growing awareness that a new form of terrorism had emerged. Experts argued that this new type of terrorism was based on the concepts of martyrdom and Armageddon, and that groups would exploit these texts to support their cause.Socioeconomic – The concept of social deprivation seems to explain the link between terrorism and various forms of deprivation. There is also evidence suggesting that the lack of political freedom and education is linked to the recruitment of terrorist fighters.Comparisons of different findings are often confusing, especially when they don’t take into account the context of how people feel about their lives.

What future research is needed to confirm or refute possibly unsubstantiated claims in the article?

cyberpsychology

You are required to write a 2000-word critique of a media article about a cyberpsychology topic, which must be supported by reference to relevant academic theory and literature, from the field of cyberpsychology and beyond. You should write in formal, academic language, as you would in a traditional academic essay.

You must choose one of the articles in the table below, and in your critique, you should take care to include:

– An introductory paragraph explaining what the article is about and what research study or studies, if any, it is based on.

– Careful, in-depth discussion of the accuracy of the points in the article.

o Backed up by reference to relevant academic research and theory.

– Critical evaluation of the research studies and theories you are citing in your critique.

– References to other studies relevant to the topic.

– A concluding paragraph summing up how well the media article represents what the scientific research has shown.

– A reference list, in APA format (this does not count towards the word limit)

You may also find it useful to consider, in the closing paragraphs your critique:

– Possible implications of the media article (are there any likely harms/benefits of the article being published, based on how well it does or does not represent what the academic literature suggests is true?)

– What future research is needed to confirm or refute possibly unsubstantiated claims in the article?

The module leader will upload lecture slides and video, and give tips and answer questions, during teaching weeks 9 and 12.

While you will pick an article about one particular issue/area of cyberpsychology for this assessment, each week’s session will provide you with opportunities to develop your knowledge of cyberpsychological theory and literature, and to practise your critical evaluation skills. All of this will contribute to your ability to produce a convincing critique for your assessment, so regular attendance at all the sessions is very important to help you get the best possible grade.

The learning outcomes that you should be aiming to achieve in this work are:

1) Demonstrate knowledge of key cyber-psychological theory.

2) Appraise and apply theory from a range of disciplines to explain human behaviour in the online world.

3) Critically evaluate the role of the Internet in human lives.

4) Present and articulate research findings effectively, concisely and professionally.
